FDNY unveils plans to commemorate upcoming 25th anniversary of 9/11

VIDEO/PHOTOS: The Fire Department on Tuesday rolled out its plans to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks, including a ceremony at a Staten Island stadium with the resilient Big Apple skyline in the backdrop.

FDNY Commissioner Robert Tucker said the remembrance scheduled for Sept. 9, 2026, at FerryHawks Stadium is part of an effort by the department to make it clear that โ€œwhen we say things like โ€˜we will never forgetโ€™ we truly mean them.โ€ โ€œEverything we do is meant to honor our legacy and never forget,โ€ Tucker told reporters. โ€œThis is a massive undertaking that will attract the attention of people from around the world, and it requires tremendous time and resources from our department.โ€

The department and the FDNY Foundation specifically chose the stadium on the northernmost edge of Staten Island because of โ€œits significance and for its beauty,โ€ Tucker said, adding he was sure all 7,000 seats would be filled.
