VIDEOS: A Delta Air Lines flight engine caught fire at the Orlando International Airport Monday morning. Videos showed smoke coming from the plane as passengers performed an emergency evacuation. The 282 passengers were removed via slides through the emergency exits.
Airport officials confirmed that the flight involved was Delta Air Lines Flight 1213, scheduled to travel from Orlando to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. The fire was reported in the tailpipe of one of the aircraft’s two engines, according to officials. Maintenance teams will now examine the aircraft. The Federal Aviation Administration explained the flight was pushed back from the departure gate around 11:15 a.m. once the fire erupted.
Chopper 2 flew over the airport as firefighters were seen watering down the plane’s engine. No injuries have been reported at this time. Delta said it is working to bring an additional aircraft to get customers to their destinations. The FAA said it will investigate the incident.
