Crews continue work after train derails and plunges into Oregon river

PHOTOS/VIDEO: The Corvallis Police Department and Corvallis Fire Department responded to an active train incident near Avery Park. According to CPD, around 12:08 p.m. Saturday, January 4, 2025, a train car operated by Portland and Western derailed due to a structural failure of a train trestle in the Marys River. Police say that one train car entered the river, and two additional train cars became unstable. At the time of the derailment the train was carrying agricultural materials, said CPD. Police say initial investigations indicate that the trestle gave way while a freight train was crossing. At this time there are no known injuries, said CPD.
