Convenience Stores Nationwide Show Appreciation to First Responders During Annual 24/7 Day

The U.S. convenience store industry will come together for its seventh annual 24/7 Day on Thursday, July 24, to honor first responders, EMTs, doctors, nurses, 911 professionals, and American Red Cross volunteers. The nationwide celebration aims to recognize everyday heroes who serve communities around the clock.

Organized by the NACS Foundation, this yearโ€™s theme, โ€œWe See You. We Thank You,โ€ celebrates raising awareness and recognizes the healthcare industry through convenience store retailers and industry suppliers. Across the country, more than 90 convenience retailing companies and brands representing 35,000 stores will have offers for first responders and Red Cross volunteers in uniform or with a valid badge. The offers include free coffee, free meals, and/or branded merchandise.

โ€œConvenience stores often serve as lifelines in times of crisis โ€” offering first responders a place to assess emergency situations, recharge, reconnect and stay fueled,โ€ said Kevin Oโ€™Connell, executive director of the NACS Foundation. โ€œThis celebration is about honoring a shared commitment to the communities we both serve.โ€

As part of this yearโ€™s celebration, the NACS Foundation is launching its First Responder of the Year Award program. The program honors individuals who go above and beyond in their service to communities. This year, the organization will select the winner from nationwide nominations. That winner will receive free gas for a year.

Altogether, the day offers a visible show of gratitude from an industry also known for its 24/7 support of communities. โ€œOur continued partnership with the NACS Foundation and its member convenience stores is one of the strongest examples of how we ensure our incredible volunteers and other community heroes are recognized,โ€ said Nathan Measom, director of national cause marketing for the American Red Cross. โ€œWhether itโ€™s responding to disasters, organizing blood drives or supporting families, our volunteers go above and beyond to serve others. Taking a moment to celebrate these everyday acts is incredibly important.โ€
