VIDEO: Colorado’s newest fire department had its first significant test over the weekend as a wildfire broke out in Douglas County. Conifer Fire, which was officially formed last month after the merger of multiple agencies, was responsible for containing the fire near Deckers in Douglas County. Chief Curt Rogers said the department’s response demonstrated the benefits of the merger. “In the past, we might have responded out, got to the incident and then called mutual aid as we were looking at it,” Rogers said. “We were able to more quickly put additional apparatus en route to this incident that we needed to actually control this fire.” Conifer Fire is so new that the trucks outside fire departments along US-287 still say Inter-Canyon Fire and North Fork Fire.
