California launches wildfire preparedness campaign

With wildfire season fast approaching, Cal Fire is urging Californians to take immediate action to protect their homes and communities. Governor Gavin Newsom is backing this call to action through a new statewide campaign focused on home hardening and defensible space.

As the state prepares for peak fire season, Cal Fire is ramping up efforts to help residents take proactive steps to safeguard their properties. Newsom’s push to increase wildfire prevention resources, including a nearly $4 billion budget for Cal Fire, is part of his broader efforts to protect communities from wildfire.

These efforts also include the creation of the world’s largest aerial firefighting fleet, the expansion of prescribed burns, and the use of advanced technologies like artificial intelligence and satellite systems to fight fires. The campaign’s focus is on two primary strategies to improve wildfire readiness: home hardening and defensible space. The goal is to increase the likelihood that homes will survive the destructive effects of wildfires.

Residents across California will see ads, posters, and messaging in stores, gas stations, and online, providing simple, actionable steps to help homeowners protect their properties.
