3 injured in Maryland tanker crash, officials say

VIDEO/PHOTOS: A Montgomery County Fire & Rescue (MCFRS) tanker was responding to a car fire when it was involved in an accident Saturday evening, officials said. Just before 8 p.m., the MCFRS vehicle collided with another car in the 9500 block of River Road, according to fire officials. Two employees in the tanker were injured and so was the civilian driver. MCFRS said all were treated for their injuries at the scene and a firefighter and the driver were taken to the hospital in stable condition. Both the civilian and firefighter spent the night in hospital for observation and are recovering. They are both expected to be treated and released at some point, according to an update from MCFRS Chief Spokesperson Pete Piringer. Piringer told 7News that the tanker unit is a major resource for the fire department and will need to be replaced. However, MCFRS does have a reserve apparatus and there will be no impact in regards to response times and coverage areas.
