Windy Rock Fire rages near Drummond, burns 3,426 acres

The Windy Rock Fire, ignited by lightning on August 14, has rapidly expanded to 3,426 acres with no containment reported, according to the Northwest Team 2 Complex Incident Management Team.

The blaze is located 15 miles northeast of Drummond.

In response to the growing threat, the Powell County Sheriff’s Office has issued an evacuation order for residents in the OS/Garnet Mountain Property Association, specifically in the Reforestation Area south of Helmville.

Residents are urged to contact the Sheriff’s Office or follow their Facebook account for the latest updates.

Additionally, a closure order remains in effect for Bureau of Land Management-managed lands within the fire area.

The fire is being battled by 519 personnel, but containment efforts have yet to yield results.
