Windy Rock Fire near Drummond continues to grow, evacuation orders in place

The Windy Rock Fire, burning 15 miles northeast of Drummond, has grown to 2,723 acres with no containment.

Evacuation orders remain in place for residents in the OS/Garnet Mountain Property Association south of Helmville.

On Sunday, crews were implementing a safe and aggressive full suppression strategy while dozers worked to improve control lines.

Officials say crews are also continuing to assess and protect structures around the Garnet Mountain subdivision as the fire has crossed onto private land.

Around 519 personnel are working to battle the flames, including 27 engines, 11 hand crews and five helicopters.

Additional winds were expected on Sunday evening and officials believed this would sustain active fire behavior.

The Bureau of Land Management public lands closure also remains in effect in the area.
