The Ravalli County Office of Emergency Management is encouraging folks to consider delaying outdoor burning until fall after a burn pile got out of control on Monday afternoon. Firefighters responded from Corvallis, Pinesdale, and Hamilton responded at around 3 p.m. as the flames spread quickly in heavy timber and reached an area 100 feet from a structure. “In the current weather pattern of little to no precipitation and near-record high temperatures, we encourage those in our communities to consider if it is really worth it to conduct your burn piles, and what you may be risking by doing so,” the OEM office posted on Facebook. “Plenty of time will be available in the fall to do your outdoor burning, and it may be worth it to wait at this point. Be safe out there!”
