Lightning Creek Fire grows to over 1,500 acres near Montana-Idaho state line

The Lightning Creek Fire, burning approximately eight miles east-northeast of Hope, Idaho, within a few miles of the Montana-Idaho state line, has grown significantly since it was first reported late Wednesday night, July 30. According to the U.S. Forest Service, the fire is now estimated at 1,562 acres following an infrared flight conducted Sunday afternoon. Fire activity has increased, fueled by dry conditions and recent storm systems that brought erratic winds and isolated thunder cells. Aircraft operations were grounded at times for safety, contributing to the fireโ€™s growth. In response to the expanding fire, an emergency closure has been issued for public and firefighter safety. Lightning Creek Road (FSR 419) is closed from its junction with Trestle Creek Road (FSR 275) to Regal Creek. Officials say more closures could follow as the situation evolves. There are 42 personnel on scene.
