The Knowles Fire has burned 3,822 acres six miles east of Paradise and is 47% contained. The fire started August 17 and is being managed by Incident Commander Ken Parks and the Western Montana All-Hazards Incident Management Team. Due to limited access, there are 235 firefighters monitoring the southwest corner of the fire. Mop up activities remain in place. The fire’s activity within the perimeter is active and areas burning in steeper terrain may have debris roll down and possibly ignite areas that haven’t burned. Officials say temperatures are expected to be cooler and have higher relative humidity with a 50% chance of rain.
