Crews continue to make progress on Cloudrest, Bivens Creek Fires near Virgina City

The Cloudrest Fire burning 3,140 acres, 15 miles northwest of Virgina City is at 35% containment. The lightning caused fire has 510 firefighters working on gaining more containment. On Tuesday ground and air crews dropped water near Noble Fork above Noble Creek Mine. Firefighters are going to camp near the fire line for several nights near Indian Creek to extinguish hot spots and strengthen handlines. A temporary flight restriction is in place over the fire. Officials have changed existing forest area closures and have opened additional areas on the east side of the forest, closures on the south and southwest sides remain in place. The Bivens Creek Fire burning 2,126 acres, 15 miles north of Virgina City is now at 88% containment. The lighting caused fire has 193 firefighters working on gaining more containment. Crews are continuing to mop up and full suppression repair near Stonewall Creek. Crews completed structure protection for homes and cabins in the area on the west side of the fire.
