Vacant apartment fire leads to minor injury for Kansas City firefighter

A vacant apartment fire in Kansas City Tuesday evening left one firefighter with minor injuries. The Kansas City Fire Department said it responded to a vacant apartment fire in the 1600 block of Brooklyn at approximately 7:30 p.m.

Crews said smoke and fire was seen coming from a vacant two-story townhome when they arrived. While interior operations were initiated, a firefighter fell through the floor. A โ€˜maydayโ€™ call was put out and the firefighter was quickly found and escorted out of the structure, a KCFD spokesperson said.

That firefighter was evaluated at the scene and had no injuries. Another firefighter unrelated to the mayday call was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, KCFD said. An investigation is underway into the cause of the fire.
