St. Louis Firefighter killed in crash

St. Louis Metropolitan Police are investigating after a multiple-car crash killed a St. Louis Firefighter late Saturday night. The identity of the firefighter has not been released as of publication time, as police work to make notifications to the firefighterโ€™s family.

Police say that multiple cars were involved in a crash around 11:35 p.m. Saturday near Dr. Martin Luther King Drive and Whittier Street. Preliminary investigations show that a black Jeep Wrangler was attempting to pass a gray Chrysler 300 when the Chrysler was attempting to turn onto Whittier. The Chrysler then struck the Wrangler, causing the Wrangler to overturn.

The driver of the Wrangler, a St. Louis Firefighter, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say the driver of the Chrysler ran away on foot, but announced Sunday he had turned himself into the North Patrol Division Sunday morning. The identity of the other driver has not been released as of publication time.
