The St. Louis Fire Department announced the death of one of its own Tuesday evening. The department said that firefighter Lee Kraus—who had 27 years of experience—suffered a medical emergency while he was on duty on Sunday, June 29. Despite the efforts of first responders and medical professionals, Kraus passed away on July 1.
“This is a heartbreaking loss for our department and our city,” said Fire Chief Dennis Jenkerson. “Firefighter Kraus was a committed public servant who made the ultimate sacrifice in
the line of duty. Our thoughts are with his family, his brothers and sisters in the department, and
all who knew him.”
The department said that Kraus was a second-generation St. Louis Firefighter. He is survived by his daughter. Funeral arrangements for Kraus will be announced soon, according to the St. Louis Fire Department.
