Officer, resident treated for smoke inhalation after Jefferson City house fire

Two people were displaced after a house fire Saturday morning in Jefferson City. Jefferson City firefighters were called to the 800 block of Clark Avenue at 7:05 a.m. Jefferson City police officers got to the scene first and went into the home. They helped one person get out of the building.

Firefighters found the fire was on the second floor of the home. They were able to quickly extinguish it. Most of the damage was in one bedroom, but there was smoke and water damage throughout the home. The fire was deemed to be accidential.

The fire department reminds people to put out smoking materials properly and have working smoke detectors. A Jefferson City police officer was treated at a local hospital for smoke inhalation. The person in the home also suffered smoke inhalation, but was treated at the scene. The Red Cross is helping the two adults displaced by the fire.
