Improper disposal causes two fires in Mexico

The Mexico Public Safety Department responded to two fire incidents over the weekend caused by improper disposal of hot and smoking materials, according to a news release.

At around 9:45 a.m. Friday, emergency personnel were called to the 800 block of East Breckenridge Street after a dumpster caught fire. Officials determined the blaze was caused by the disposal of hot cooking materials, according to the news release. The fire was quickly extinguished, with damage limited to the dumpster itself.

Firefighters also responded to a call on the 2000 block of Summer Ridge Road just before 1 p.m. Saturday, where mulch in a flower bed had ignited. The fire spread, causing damage to personal property and the adjacent house, according to the news release. Responding teams successfully extinguished the blaze, which appeared to have been started by improperly discarded smoking materials, according to the public safety department.

No injuries were reported in either incident.
