PHOTOS: Firefighters need to stay in shape and also be able to perform at top level in their full gear. Earlier this week Sarcoxie Rural Firefighters played some SCBA (Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus) basketball. SCBA is a firefighter’s vital personal protective equipment that provides a supply of clean, breathable air in hazardous environments, allowing them to work in smoke-filled and toxic atmospheres safely.
Sarcoxie Rural Fire state, โIt was definitely not easy playing basketball in full turnout gear while wearing SCBA lol! I think we will stick to our fire fighting we are a lot better at that.โ The SCBA includes a compressed air cylinder, pressure regulators, a facepiece, and a harness worn on the firefighter’s back. Fire Depts all over the US SCBA basketball as a drill. The primary purpose is not to compete, but to simulate the physical exertion and impaired conditions of an emergency scene.
