VIDEO: Emergency officials teamed up Monday at the Columbia Regional Airport to train for aircraft disasters. Multiple local emergency agencies participated in the mass casualty training, including police, fire departments and ambulance services. Local emergency personnel responded to a simulated plane crash as if it were a real emergency.
“For us to be training like this and be prepared like this is a big deal,” Columbia Fire Department captain Wayne Cummins said. The crash simulation used volunteer actors playing the role of victims around the crash site. “We have an organized plan in place,” Cummins said. “Everybody knows the job they’re getting ready to do.
The city of Columbia also partnered with Boone County Office of Emergency Services and the Salvation Army. This training exercise happens every three years to better prepare emergency services.
