Fire crews responded to a residential building on Tuesday in Columbia. The Columbia Fire Department (CFD) was dispatched to the 700 block of North Garth Avenue on April 29 at 9:33 p.m., where smoke was seen coming from the third floor of a large apartment complex. A small fire was located and contained to one residential unit, where the fire suppression system kept the flames from spreading.
Firefighters were able to put out the fire and limit the damage to the apartment where it started. According to a press release, crews also pressurized the building and ventilated out the smoke. Residents directly impacted by the smoke were evaluated by EMS but were determined to be unharmed. CFD noted that the fire was accidental and is investigating the cause.
