1 dead in structure fire near Waynesville

One person is dead after a structure fire near Waynesville early Sunday morning. According to the Waynesville Rural Fire Protection District, firefighters were dispatched to a residential structure fire at around 4:40 a.m. to the 25000 block of Red Oak Road.

Crews said the fire originated in a back bedroom and that one individual was reportedly trapped inside. Once crews arrived on scene, one individual was already outside the home. One man was transported to a nearby hospital. A second individual was found dead in the back bedroom, according to Waynesville Rural Fire. Crews said the fire was controlled around 6:45 a.m.

The Missouri State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire. The Pulaski County Coroner’s Office is leading the death investigation, Waynesville Rural Fire said. The Tri-County Fire Protection District, Hazelgreen Fire Protection District, St. Robert Fire and Rescue, Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office, Pulaski County Ambulance District, and the American Red Cross of Missouri also assisted.
