VIDEO: The inaugural Youth Firefighting Program hosted by Wiggins took place at the Wiggins Fire Department. The event provided a chance for hands on training in fire safety, first aid, fitness challenges as well as a chance to meet some firefighters and more. Junior cadets aged 7 to 12 experienced engaging activities with local firefighters. Everything from touring equipment, learning safety drills, and even participating in simulated scenarios in a fun, controlled environment. Cadets were encouraged to wear a red shirt, khaki shorts, and tennis shoes. Snacks and drinks were provided for the classes. The academy was led by Chief Steven Purvis who served as the chief instructor.
