A pair of gas leaks in Tupelo, led to the evacuation of seven buildings on Thursday, according to Mississippi Public Service Commissioner for the Northern District Chris Brown.
Brown reported the gas leaks around 3 p.m. He said both are considered Grade 1 leaks. One of the gas leaks was near State Farm and the other was near Renasant Bank at Troy Street both in Downtown Tupelo, according to Brown.
The commissioner said that seven buildings were evacuated as a result, affecting about 150 people. Brown said that Tupelo Police and Tupelo Fire responded to the scenes. According to Brown, the leak near State Farm was successfully isolated and crews are working to isolate the second leak near Renasant Bank at Troy.
