Jones County fire department dedicates new fire station, places new truck into service

VIDEO: Volunteer firefighters, local and state leaders, and many Jones County residents gathered in the Rustin Community on Saturday to open a new fire station. A new station on Poole Creek Road for the Rustin Volunteer Fire Department was dedicated. It was paid for with money granted by the State Legislature, as well as fire department funds and donations.

The fire station is larger than the old station, which was built in 1987. Also, the fire department put into service a new fire engine. County supervisors purchased the truck for the department. “I’m very proud of the building, the truck, and the members that have helped,” said Thomas Holifield, chief of the Rustin Volunteer Fire Department. “It’s just a blessing.” The land for the fire station was donated by resident Pete Mercer. His father donated the land where the original station was built.
