New firetruck arrives for Oloh Volunteer Fire Department

VIDEO: The wait is finally over for the community of Oloh. A brand-new, shiny firetruck was delivered around 9 a.m. Wednesday and already was put through the necessary testing to be put in service. The test was performed by the Mississippi State Rating Bureau, the agency that sets insurance rates and certifies firetrucks throughout the state.

Every truck in the state must undergo a three-hour pump test. Olohโ€™s $440,000 engine can hold 1,500 gallons of water.

โ€œThis truck has a 1,500 GPM (gallons per minute) pump and it also has 1,500 gallons of water, and for most of our trucks that are pumpers in Lamar County thatโ€™s a bigger pump and a bigger tank than itโ€™s on most of our trucks,โ€ said Lamar County Fire Coordinator Kyle Hill.

โ€œSo, weโ€™re able to kind of help reduce the size of our fleet some and provide more water and more pumping power to the fire department. โ€œIn the rural areas especially, this is going to be important as it carries more water to those areas where thereโ€™s not hydrants.โ€œ

Olohโ€™s new truck became the first purchased under a new pumper replacement plan the county started this fiscal year.
