Prior Lake crews respond to mosque fire

VIDEO: A mosque in Prior Lake suffered significant damage in a fire early Monday. Fire crews arrived on scene at the Masjid Hamza Al- Mahmood Foundation, at 5995 Timber Trail Southeast, just before 2:30 a.m. and found flames leaping from the roof. Firefighters searched the building to confirm no one was inside, then began their attack from both the interior and exterior of the mosque.

A decision was made to pull crews from the inside of the building just before a portion of the roof collapsed. Four hours after the fire started, firefighters were still working on extinguishing hot spots.

A Prior Lake spokesman says because the building housed a religious institution, a full investigation will be conducted by the Minnesota State Fire Marshal’s Office and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.

The Prior Lake Fire Department was assisted on scene by crews from the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community, Savage, Shakopee, Jordan, Elko New Market and Lakeville Fire Department.
