Pet Killed in Camper Fire at Winona Campground

A pet perished in a fire at a southeast Minnesota campground Monday morning. That’s according to the Winona Fire Department, which says crews responded to the blaze around 11:40 a.m. Firefighters were dispatched to the report of an camper fire.

The RV was parked at the Prairie Island Campground along the Mississippi River in Winona. Officials say no people were inside of the camper when the fire broke out. Fire crews contained the fire to the camper. No human injuries were reported, however a dog belonging to the camper owners died in the blaze, the Winona Fire Department says. Officials did not describe the extent of fire damage the camper suffered. The cause of the fire is under investigation. The Winona Police Department and Winona Area Ambulance also responded to the scene.
