VIDEO: A local fire department is getting some extra funds from an unexpected source. Proper Number 12 Irish Whiskey has given $10,000 to each of 24 fire departments around the country, including North Mankato’s.
The department said that the money will go into new equipment for firefighters to make sure that there’s extra gear while suits are being disinfected after a fire. Leaders at the station said that they are thankful for the grant, and that they had no idea it was a possibility before they were awarded the money.
“It just really kind of caught us off guard, we don’t really get that very often, that somebody wants to offer you a fairly substantial sum of money,” said the department’s Greg Thate. “So we kind of talked about it like ‘oh this is pretty cool.” The brand will soon be sponsoring even more fire departments, with the next batch of grantees being announced on July 1.
