Minnesota firefighter laid to rest after dying in prescribed burn in Idaho

VIDEO: Family, friends and first responders gathered at the Church of St. Charles Borromeo in St. Anthony, Minnesota Saturday to lay 26-year-old firefighter Isabella Oscarson to rest.

According to the Idaho Department of Lands, Oscarson was killed in the line of duty on Friday, Sept. 26, after being struck by a falling tree while helping the U.S. Forest Service on a prescribed burn in the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forest in northern Idaho.

“Really a great person, and she will be sorely missed,” said DNR Wildlife Operation supervisor William Glesener. “She was a bubbly personality, always willing to step up and do what was necessary, always had a smile on her face.”

At the time of her death, Oscarson, a Watertown native, was a seasonal firefighter for the Idaho Department of Lands (IDL). A procession was held on Wednesday in Idaho to honor her service and her lifeโ€”a reminder of the dangers firefighters face even in controlled environments.

โ€œWhen we are serving the public and something tragic happens, it’s very difficult,โ€ Glesener said.
