VIDEO: Family, friends and first responders gathered at the Church of St. Charles Borromeo in St. Anthony, Minnesota Saturday to lay 26-year-old firefighter Isabella Oscarson to rest.
According to the Idaho Department of Lands, Oscarson was killed in the line of duty on Friday, Sept. 26, after being struck by a falling tree while helping the U.S. Forest Service on a prescribed burn in the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forest in northern Idaho.
“Really a great person, and she will be sorely missed,” said DNR Wildlife Operation supervisor William Glesener. “She was a bubbly personality, always willing to step up and do what was necessary, always had a smile on her face.”
At the time of her death, Oscarson, a Watertown native, was a seasonal firefighter for the Idaho Department of Lands (IDL). A procession was held on Wednesday in Idaho to honor her service and her lifeโa reminder of the dangers firefighters face even in controlled environments.
โWhen we are serving the public and something tragic happens, it’s very difficult,โ Glesener said.
