Minneapolis Fire Chief Bryan Tyner Announces Retirement

VIDEO: The city of Minneapolis will be looking for a new fire chief after current department leader Bryan Tyner announced his retirement Thursday.

Tyner has been with MFD for more than 30 years, including the last five as chief. He has served in multiple leadership roles and is credited with helping diversify the department, increasing the overall number of firefighters in Minneapolis, advancing health and safety initiatives and enacting a commercial building inspection program that is now a national model.

โ€œChief Tyner has given more than 30 years of his life in service to our city, and Minneapolis is better for it,โ€ said Mayor Jacob Frey, congratulating Tyner on his pending retirement. โ€œA kid from North Minneapolis who grew up to lead the Minneapolis Fire Department, heโ€™s never stopped giving back to the community that raised himโ€”and I know heโ€™ll continue to do so in his next chapter.”
