Man dies following Fairmont house fire

VIDEO: A man has died following a house fire in Fairmont Monday night. The Fairmont Police Department said the fire happened just before 4:45 p.m. Monday on the 300 block of South Park Street. When first responders arrived, they saw fire engulfing the basement of the home. Police officers attempted to extinguish the fire until firefighters arrived.

Two residents were taken to the Fairmont hospital for smoke inhalation and burns. A 43-year-old man was pronounced dead at the hospital. The other resident, a 41-year-old man, was treated and released.

Four Fairmont police officers were also treated at the hospital for smoke inhalation. Multiple fire departments were called to help fight the fire and the State Fire Marshal is assisting in the investigation.
