LeRoy wrapped up Summerfest on Sunday with a special annual tradition. Summerfest kicked off on Thursday and was marked by four days full of games, live music and giveaways.
The fun officially wrapped up with the grilled chicken dinner hosted by the LeRoy Fire Department on Sunday, a tradition going back 40 years. The dinner started at 11 a.m., but the morning started much earlier for the hardworking fire department and volunteers. Firefighters started lighting up the grill to serve mouthwatering chicken, along with coleslaw, potato salad and lemonade to round out the menu. The dinner isn’t just about eating good, it’s also a fundraiser to provide tools and equipment for the fire department.
LeRoy Fire Chief Caleb Hovde was excited to be the third generation in his family to help with the tradition. “We love the support, we love seeing everyone in the community,” Hovde said. “We can’t do what we can and have the equipment that we have without the community support and we appreciate it so much.” The event serves over 800 meals every year and brings in plenty of out of towners.
