Firefighter taken to hospital after fire at vacant home in St. Paul

VIDEO: A firefighter was taken to a hospital early Wednesday morning after battling flames at a vacant home in St. Paul’s Railroad Island neighborhood. The St. Paul Fire Department says crews were sent to a duplex in the 500 block of Brunson Street just after 2:20 a.m.

Neighbors told a 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS photographer that the home has been vacant for years. When firefighters arrived, they found flames coming from multiple floors. The fire has since been extinguished but the duplex appeared to have serious damage. One firefighter suffered what a spokesperson for the department deemed a “minor injury” but was taken to a hospital for evaluation. The fire department tells 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS that inspectors have been called to assess the safety of the building. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
