A fire at a cannabis dispensary Tuesday morning prompted evacuations within a 300-yard radius and road closures as firefighters monitored the blaze from a distance due to butane gas concerns. Dispatchers with the Mahnomen County Sheriff’s Office received a fire report at the Waabigwan Mashkiki dispensary on Jefferson Avenue at 10:51 a.m. Dec. 2, according to a news release.
Fire crews from Mahnomen, Waubun and Twin Lakes responded with law enforcement. Firefighters confirmed an active blaze in the dispensary’s lab area.
Two staff members were working in the lab when the fire began. One worker suffered minor burns and was treated and released after a medical evaluation.
Butane gas at the scene kept the fire burning. Officials established a 300-yard safety perimeter around the building and evacuated nearby buildings and businesses while closing several roads.
