The Eden Prairie community is mourning the loss of a revered figure, as news of the passing of Retired Fire Captain Mark VandenBerghe circulates among those he served. VandenBerghe succumbed to his battle with cancer on June 1, leaving behind a legacy that spanned over three decades of unwavering commitment to firefighting and public service.

An announcement from the City of Eden Prairie highlighted his 34 years of dedication, which culminated in his retirement in 2022. Mark VandenBergheโ€™s name is synonymous with exceptional service, a legacy formally recognized in 2017 when he was honored as Firefighter of the Year, as detailed by the City of Eden Prairie. His dedication extended beyond Eden Prairie through his work with the Disaster Medical Assistance Team (DMAT), where he responded to emergencies across the country.
