VIDEO: Crews responded to Holmes Recycling Services, where multiple vehicles were reported to be on fire, following a vehicle explosion. According to the St. Louis County Sheriffโs Office, authorities were dispatched around 10:40 a.m. for reports of several vehicles on fire at Holmes Recycling Services in Clinton Township.
The salvage yard is located near the intersection of County Highway 7 and State Highway 37. Around 12 departments responded to the scene of an active fire.
Authorities believe that while a car was being compressed, a battery inside the car caused an explosion, leading to a larger fire. According to the Chief of the Clinton Township Volunteer Fire Department, reports began with three to four vehicles on fire, then grew to about 20 vehicles.
