Blaze in south Minneapolis leaves 3 without a home

VIDEO: Three residents of south Minneapolis are regrouping Monday after an overnight fire destroyed the south Minneapolis duplex they called home. Minneapolis fire crews arrived on the 2600 block of Emerson Ave. S. shortly before 1 a.m. and found flames leaping from the back porch of the 3-story structure. Fire soon extended up to the roof, and a second alarm was called to summon additional firefighters and equipment. Crews say the flames soon jumped to the roof and the detached garage, and damaged power poles which knocked down electricity to almost 40 neighborhood households.

It took several hours, but firefighters eventually were able to extinguish the blaze. The duplex was declared uninhabitable. Xcel Energy crews were able to restore power to the neighborhood around 6:30 a.m. Minneapolis Fire officials say investigators are trying to determine a cause.
