Two teens were rescued after officials say they fell through ice while attempting to ice fish on a northern Minnesota lake Tuesday afternoon. The Becker County Sheriff’s Office said they were called to Straight Lake in Osage, Minnesota, just before 3 p.m. on a report of two teens in the water.
The emergency personnel arrived, and they were told that a 13-year-old and a 14-year-old were floating inside a sled they were sitting in while trying to move across the ice.
According to the sheriff’s office, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) was able to break through the ice and launch a boat for a DNR Conservation Officer and a Hubbard County Sheriff’s Office deputy to reach the teens. It was later determined that the two teens were attempting to ice fish on the lake.
Officials with the sheriff’s office are advising everyone to stay off the lakes in the area until the ice is thicker.
