Unattended fire in Richmond Township spreads to pine stand, burning four acres before being contained

On Saturday afternoon, the Reed City Fire Department said they responded to a grass and woods fire on 230th Avenue in Richmond Township. Firefighters said it began from an “unattended fire,” which then spread into a pine stand. It was contained to four acres.

At approximately 6 p.m., crews on the scene said they noticed smoke coming from the east. Units were dispatched and said they discovered a fire at the city’s brush disposal site. With help from the Michigan DNR and Reed City Department of Public Works (DPW), the fire was contained to half of the pile. The DPW said they will continue to monitor the site throughout the weekend.
