Three children are dead after a house in Sanilac County caught fire Tuesday. The Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office says the fire was reported at a residence in the 3500 block of Washington Road shortly after 11 a.m.
The 911 caller advised that several people were trapped in the house, which is located in a rural area south of Carsonville. Five fire departments responded to the fire and crews pulled the three children out. Ambulances rushed them to two hospitals in the Thumb region, where they were pronounced dead from their injuries Tuesday afternoon. Authorities did not identify the children on Wednesday while they continued working to notify family members. The Michigan State Police Fire Investigation Unit and local fire departments will continue working to determine what caused the fire.
