7th Annual Walk for Red in Lansing Supports Firefighters with Cancer

VIDEO: Firefighters and community members in Lansing raised awareness for firefighters with cancer on Saturday with the 7th Annual Walk for Red. The Walk for Red is an annual event created in 2019 by Joe Warne, a firefighter in Macomb Township. Warne created the walk to raise awareness for firefighters with cancer.

The walk consists of Warne walking across Michigan dressed in full firefighter gear. Warne shared the importance of this annual walk and fundraiser. “Firefighters, when you call 911, they always answer the call. They always show up. They never deny you the help you need,” said Warne. “Now they’re calling 911, and now they need your help, and hopefully we answer the call for them as well.” This year, Warne is walking for 76 Michigan firefighters who were diagnosed with cancer since last September, 26 of which have passed away.
