Stranded climber uses app to help Plainfield Township firefighters find him in tree

A climber was rescued from a tree in the woods after helping first responders find him using a location app, the Plainfield Township Fire Department said. Sunday afternoon, firefighters got a call about a โ€œyoung adultโ€ who was stuck in a tree about 1,800 feet off a main road, in a wooded area of Plainfield Township. They were able to find him using an app called WhatThreeWords, which helps identify precise locations. The climber was able to get more than 70 feet up the tree with โ€œrelative ease,โ€ the fire department said, but as he tried to climb down, branches broke and stranded him. The Grand Rapids Fire Department also helped get him down. No one was injured, the Plainfield Township Fire Department said.
