PHOTOS: A bystander rescued one person from a burning vehicle following a crash Thursday afternoon in Geneva Township, according to the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office. It happened on County Road 388 near 68th Street in front of Phoenix Country Market around 3:30 p.m., deputies said.
According to investigators, a 2022 Hyundai was eastbound on County Road 388 when the driver attempted to turn into the business’s driveway and was hit by a westbound 2025 Chevrolet. When authorities received the initial 911 call, it was reported that the Hyundai was on fire and that someone inside may be unconscious, deputies said.
A bystander was able to pull the person out of the burning vehicle while another bystander used an extinguisher to put out that fire, which the sheriff’s office said was small. The driver of the Hyundai was taken to the hospital for serious injuries, according to deputies. The condition of the other driver is not known.
