VIDEO: Two dogs are dead and a Plainfield Township home is a likely total loss after a fire and smoke explosion on Sunday morning. Plainfield Township Fire Chief Kyle Svoboda said the fire was first reported around 9:20 a.m. Officials said crews were dispatched to a home in the 1900 block of Rogue River Drive near the intersection of Alcove Drive NE and Rogue River Run for the fire.
According to Kent County Dispatch, nine different units responded to the fire. Svoboda said when crews got to the scene, they found heavy smoke coming from the basement of the home.
More units were called to the scene for extra resources when it was discovered that the fire was spreading up into the main level of the home. Fire crews initially entered the home to put the fire out, but after about 20 minutes, the incident commander had crews move into a defensive strategy due to the intensity of the fire.
