VIDEO: At least 50 firefighters answered the call to help put out a fire at a Comstock Park building on Wednesday. The fire started around 5 p.m. in the 4000 block of West River Drive. Plainfield Fire Department Chief Kyle Svoboda said somewhere between six or eight fire departments responded. He noted that the departments will often train together, which makes calls where they all respond go even smoother. The thick, black smoke could be seen for miles, Svoboda said they received multiple calls from people who could see the smoke all across US-131. On scene, the Walker Fire Department deployed drones to help get an overhead view to fight the fire. Svoboda said it took about 30-45 minutes to contain the fire. He said there were three businesses inside the building, and at least one of them was left with significant damage.
