No one was hurt after a fire broke out at a home in Battle Creek early Sunday, according to the Battle Creek Fire Department. Firefighters were called on reports of light smoke coming from the roofline of a home on Upton Avenue, near Frederick Street and West Dickman Road, at about 3 a.m.
When they arrived, firefighters found the fire burning in the attic of the home, and contained the flames within 10 minutes. As of Sunday afternoon, the fire appears to have been caused by old electrical wiring, according to the department.
The attic sustained fire damage, and the property’s first and second floors sustained water damage, firefighters said. In addition, the fire is estimated to have caused about $50,000 in property damage and $10,000 in contents damage, according to a report provided to News Channel 3.
