VIDEO: Neighbors rescued a 36-year-old man from Bush Lake after he broke through the ice with his snowmobile on Sunday afternoon. Neighbors were assisting the snowmobiler around 100 feet from shore when officers from the Holly Police Department arrived in the 800 block of Holly Bush Drive around 2:40 p.m.
Residents threw a rope to the man and he was able to pull himself from the water while officers obtained a kayak in case he was unable to get to shore. Once out of the water, officers instructed the man to roll off the ice to shore. Firefighters from the Holly Fire Department met him on the shore and transported him to an area hospital.
The Oakland County Sheriffโs Office Search and Rescue Team assisted in removing the man’s snowmobile from the lake bottom. Authorities remind the public that no ice is safe ice and people need to ensure ice thickness before venturing onto frozen lakes.
