VIDEO: The Neguanee City Fire Department is reminding everyone of the dangers recent warm weather, strong winds, and dry conditions can cause. Shortly before 7 p.m. Sunday night, the department was dispatched to Rolling Mill Road near Miller Road.
There, they found a fire in the cattails of a swamp on the south side of the road. The department said roughly 50 yards of the area had caught on fire and was burned, with some small areas of flames still burning.
With the help of additional water brought in by a nearby creek, the fire was fully and quickly put out in less than an hour. The fire department said the lack of rain Upper Michigan is getting causes a higher potential for fires like these.
