VIDEO: A man suffered burn injuries during an explosion where oil spilled in Plainwell, according to the city. Around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday on North Main Street near 2nd Avenue in Plainwell, a 25-year-old Plainwell area man was using a plasma cutter near some flammable chemicals, which caused an explosion and fire, the city of Plainwell said.
The man was burned in the fire. Employees at the scene were able to put the fire out and help the victim until first responders got there. First responders arrived to find the man with “significant burn injuries, covering nearly half of his body,” the city wrote in a post. He was taken to the hospital, where medical professionals say he is expected to recover. The explosion also caused an oil spill, Plainwell said. Firefighters applied oil dry to contain the spill before a hazardous materials contractor completed the cleanup. The Plainwell Department of Public Safety is investigating the explosion, but say no foul play is suspected.
